A mismatch affects both employee and employer

21 September 2017

The MyMatch method shows clearly which type of personality, with its accompanying drivers, best fits a particular role. But what are the consequences for an employee and their employer when there is a mismatch?

A mismatch leads to burnout symptoms and physical complaints

Research was recently carried out in Switzerland into the direct relationship between employees and their working environment. First conclusion: the better the two fit together, the greater the personal wellbeing of employees. The study also looked at the extent to which there is a connection between a mismatch, burnout symptoms and physical complaints. Second conclusion: that connection is unmistakably present.

A people manager with clipped wings

An example: what happens when a genuine people manager, with the people-oriented green driver in their profile, is never given the chance to pay attention to the individual personalities of their colleagues? Instead they are expected to delegate work in a dominant way. Or take a creative employee with a yellow driver who is only allowed to carry out routine tasks, when their real strength is putting forward new ideas. You can sense immediately that these people will soon get stuck in their working environment.

Taking responsibility

In practice I still too often see that too little attention is paid to a good match between employer and employee. We all know that there are additional costs when someone does not function at their best or, worse still, becomes ill for a long period. That is why I am a strong advocate of organisations taking their responsibility here and actively contributing to the wellbeing of their people. That is where the interests of the organisation and the interests of the employee come together perfectly.

A first step

Preventing mismatches. How exactly do you do that? The MyMatch method offers a first step: what an employee wants matters more than what they can do.
