More effective behaviour and better collaboration

The relationship between drivers and behaviour

At the bottom of the iceberg, your personal drivers, or your intrinsic motivation, answer the question: what do I want? These underlying drivers steer the visible behaviour at the top of the iceberg. That is where the question is answered: what do I do? Because of the specific behaviour that individuals and teams display, collaboration runs smoothly or, on the contrary, awkwardly. To optimise collaboration you have to understand your drivers and have insight into your behaviour. If you also have insight into your environment, you can deploy your behaviour flexibly and be maximally effective.

The MyHabits 360° feedback method

This method holds up a mirror in which you see what behaviour you display in a particular environment or situation. Your behaviour during a business meeting will be different from your behaviour when you are coaching your son or daughter during a football match. Using the same colour language as MyDrives and MyMatch, the MyHabits 360° feedback method offers you practical tools that show how the people immediately around you perceive your behaviour, so that you can move forward.

Be open minded

Try to be open minded when you read your MyHabits 360° profile for the first time after the analysis. It may contain things you recognise and that make you happy. But it may also contain things you initially disagree with. Do not immediately become defensive, and try to work out why the people around you see you that way. Think of practical situations, they often help. Or ask the people around you for a concrete explanation. Realise too that there is no right or wrong.

A coloured view of your behaviour

It is also important to know that the results of the MyHabits 360° feedback method are a representation of how others experience your behaviour in a particular context. That says a great deal about them at the same time, because they too have drivers that look at your behaviour in a naturally coloured way.

Positive, excessive, negative and missing behaviour

Broadly speaking there are four ways in which people perceive and qualify your behaviour: positive behaviour, excessive behaviour, negative behaviour and missing behaviour. Positive behaviour is behaviour that the people around you experience as fitting. They experience excessive behaviour as positive too, but feel you have taken it too far. Negative behaviour they see as unconstructive, and you have to take account of irritation among the people around you in response to that behaviour. Behaviour can also be barely visible or not visible at all. We call this missing behaviour. That need not be a problem, but there is an opportunity here for you to broaden your behavioural repertoire and become more flexible.

More effective behaviour, better collaboration

Once you have insight into your MyHabits 360° profile you get a clear picture of your development potential. Your personal behaviour is not something static. Through new environments, successes and setbacks you are able to display the most fitting behaviour. What matters here is that you are genuinely motivated to do so. The direct result is that your behaviour becomes more effective and the collaboration improves.
