At DSV, the requests to start working with MyDrives keep coming in

Offices in more than 80 countries and over 25 sites in the Netherlands: DSV is an originally Danish organisation that provides transport and logistics services worldwide. Walter de Wilde is the HR director of DSV Nederland, where 3,650 employees are at work. Almost 3 years ago, he was first introduced to MyDrives.

Team development with MyDrives at DSV Nederland

From road transport to air and sea freight: DSV is growing rapidly, partly through acquisitions. For the HR department, MyDrives was the tool that brought extra depth to recruitment, guidance and team development.

A handy and appealing tool

Walter: ‘Before that time, at the direction of our Danish head office, we also worked in the Netherlands with an English company that handled our selection assessments. That collaboration went, and still goes, well. Even so, our HR department wanted a tool that would add greater depth to the recruitment and ongoing guidance of employees and the development of teams. That became MyDrives. The colour profiles that MyDrives produces for individual employees and teams are a tool that is as handy as it is appealing for improving collaboration within teams, and with it our performance.’

We wanted a tool that would add greater depth. We now stand out even more within DSV as a positively engaged department.

In-company training

Max Stultiens is managing partner of MyDrives MyHabits MyMatch. ‘Including Walter, 18 HR staff took part in the three-day MyDrives certification during an in-company training. This means they can now act as MyDrives consultants and run MyDrives workshops internally themselves.’ Walter: ‘That’s a great thing to do. On the one hand, the colour profiles help you ask people the right questions and give you a better sense of which workplace suits their specific qualities. On the other hand, MyDrives helps our HR department move forward professionally. We now stand out even more within DSV as a positively engaged department. And not just as the party that turns up when there are redundancies or performance issues.’

The thinking-feeling-doing triangle

Walter: ‘DSV is an organisation that regularly acquires companies within the same sector. Examples from the past are UTi Worldwide Inc., Panalpina and – more at a Dutch level and even longer ago – the freight forwarding and transport firm Frans Maas. Soon a large German company will also become part of our organisation. German companies generally have a different culture from Danish or Dutch companies. It’s then interesting to see to what extent the personalities of those new employees match those of our existing staff. At DSV we are real go-getters, real doers, as is also clear from the thinking-feeling-doing triangle that MyDrives uses. That triangle quickly gives a clear overview of predominantly analytical, collaborative and action-oriented personalities. I’m curious to see what our future colleagues can contribute to our doer culture.’

Not too personal

Walter: ‘MyDrives improves our communication and performance, too, because the tone of voice in the colour reports makes it easy to start a conversation. For example: “You lean more towards the holistic approach” sounds far more positive than “You’re a rather woolly type” when you’re talking to an employee who mainly has a turquoise drive. In other words: MyDrives lets you have a good conversation without it becoming too personal. And by extension: MyDrives is, in any case, a tool that establishes a shared colour language in a relaxed way.’

Serious fun

‘That certainly also has to do with the fact that the interactive MyDrives workshops consist not only of a theoretical part but also of a practical part. In that part, various game formats take place that support the theory. All in all, you could describe MyDrives as serious fun. That’s a combination that appeals not only to me as HR director. That’s clear enough from the requests that keep coming in within DSV to start working with MyDrives.’

The result

MyDrives gave the HR department greater depth in recruitment and team development, established a shared colour language and positioned the department internally as a positively engaged partner, and within DSV the requests to work with MyDrives keep coming in.
